Leader: From you comes the theme of our praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you, we will fulfill our vows.
All: The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the Lord will praise him – may your hearts live forever!

All: We will proclaim his righteousness, declaring to a people yet unborn: He has done it!

Call to Confession
Unison Prayer of Confession
God of our ancestors, we confess that we have set our minds on human things. We have sought to gain the world, yet we are not satisfied. Life's meaning eludes us. Your promises appear as the hopes and dreams of a past generation. Yet we sense with hope that your promises are for us too. We seek a way of life more satisfying, and we confess our need for you. Hear our cries for help: Forgive our sins and draw us to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Silent Prayer of Confession
Assurance of Pardon Pastor
The words “it was credited to him” were not written for Abraham alone, but also for us, who believe in God who raised Jesus from the dead. Our Lord Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Romans 4:23-25

Gracious Lord, have mercy on your church, for we forget the covenant into which you call us. We pursue self-serving schemes rather than waiting for your word and affirmation of our choices. According to your steadfast love, forgive us and guide us in your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Call to Confession
Unison Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, we seek your mercy. On this day when we celebrate the birth of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, we are aware of our shortcomings, both as a community and as individuals. Many times, we speak without love; we lack patience and kindness. We proclaim our faith in you and yet deny love of one another. We boast of what we give away but hoard the best of ourselves in selfishness and greed. We do not live the message of the gospel. For all these transgressions, we humbly ask your forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
