Prelude Lighting of the Candles
Opening Scripture Sentence: As soon as Jesus was baptized… heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16-17
*Opening Prayer Pastor
*Call to Worship Responsive Reading from Psalm 29
Leader: Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Give to the Lord the glory due his name. Worship him in the beauty of holiness.
All: The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders. The voice of the Lord is powerful. The voice of the Lord is majestic.
Leader: The voice of the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Mt. Hermon leap like a young wild ox.
All: The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning. The voice of the Lord shakes the desert. The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. In his temple all cry, “Glory!”
Leader: The Lord sits enthroned over the flood. The Lord is enthroned as king forever. The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.

Call to Confession
Unison Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, in baptism you promise forgiveness and new life, making us part of the body of Christ. We confess that we remain preoccupied with ourselves, separated from sisters and brothers in Christ. We cling to destructive habits, hold grudges, and show reluctance to welcome one another. We allow the past to hold us hostage. In your lovingkindness, have mercy on us, and free us from sin. Remind us of the promises you make in baptism so that we may rise to new life and live together in grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Silent Prayer of Confession
Assurance of Pardon Pastor
Hear the good news! If we have died in Christ, we believe we shall also live with him. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Our baptism is a picture of this. In Christ, we are forgiven. Romans 6:8,11
