Prelude Lighting of the Candles
Opening Scripture Sentence: When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he returned to Galilee to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah: The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. Matthew 4:12-16 and Isaiah 9:2
*Opening Prayer Pastor
*Call to Worship Responsive Reading, from Psalm 27
Leader: The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?
All: One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
Leader: For in the day of trouble, he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.
All: Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face! Your face, Lord, will I seek.” We are confident of this: we will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living… Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Call to Confession
Eternal God, we confess that we have fallen away from your intentions for us. We follow paths of greed and selfishness, turning away from others in need. Forgive us for not understanding the sacrifice of love you have made for all of us. We hear Jesus’ call to repent and return to the kingdom of God. Show us how to live for others instead of ourselves. Show us how to carry your light into the darkness of the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Silent Prayer of Confession
Assurance of Pardon Pastor
Light has come. Salvation is poured out on those who will accept it. The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18
