Prelude Lighting of the Candles
Opening Scripture Sentence: I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all he has done for us… in all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel of his presence saved them. Isaiah 53:7-9
*Opening Prayer Pastor
*Call to Worship Responsive Reading from Psalms 97, 98, 148
Leader: Praise the Lord from the heavens… angels, heavenly hosts, shining stars, waters above the earth…
All: For God commanded and all were created.
Leader: Praise the Lord from the earth… Mountains and hills, ocean depths and the creatures that live there, storms that do his bidding, all creatures of land and sky, kings of the earth and all nations…
All: Let them praise the Lord for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
Leader: He has raised up for his people a horn of salvation, the praise of all his saints. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity.
All: Light is shed upon the righteous and joy on the upright heart. Rejoice in the Lord, and praise his name, for Christ the King is born.

Call to Confession
Unison Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, we have been busy with things that do not satisfy. We seem too busy to pray and too proud to kneel. Heal the emptiness that gives rise to our misplaced loyalties and distorted dreams. Forgive our neglect, forgetfulness, and lack of focus on you. We want to be whole people, transformed by the gift of Christ. Help us to find true peace on our knees before Jesus, our Lord and Savior. In his name we pray, Amen.
Silent Prayer of Confession
Assurance of Pardon Pastor
Christ identified with us to show us whose we are. He suffered to teach us how to endure times of testing. Christ died to atone for our sins. He is now our merciful and faithful High Priest, who welcomes us to be at one with God. In him, we are forgiven and redeemed. Jesus calls us his brothers and sisters. (from Hebrews 2:10-18)
