From the Pastor’s Desk: “Continual Prayer for Our Nation”
Our country observed a National Day of Prayer on May 1, 2025. This observance is the result of a bill passed on April 17, 1952, which required that “the President proclaim a suitable day each year, other than a Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer… on which people may turn to God…” corporately and individually. The theme for 2025 is based on Romans 15:13, which reads, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (NKJV). Although you are reading this after May 1 has passed, I encourage and implore you to be in continual prayer for our nation. We are in desperate need of God’s presence, grace, forgiveness, and guidance. One day is not enough for us to pray against the tide of moral decadence, corruption, and eroding adherence to Biblical truth and principles that threatens our nation from within. God’s grace and mercy are transformative; repentance will bring our nation back into God’s favor. Too many of our leaders ignore God. Too many of our people have forgotten God and the moral and spiritual standards He set for his people. Ponder these words of Franklin Graham, quoting his father Rev. Billy Graham in Decision Magazine (February 2025 issue): “Man without God is a contradiction… He sees evil as good and good as evil.” Without God, life’s values become confused. Rev. Graham used the example of the conversion of the apostle Paul to show how dramatically people can change in the power, light, and knowledge of Christ. “Before Paul’s conversion, he saw Christ as the greatest evil, breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord (Acts 9:1). But after he encountered Christ on the Damascus Road, Paul loved what he had so fervently hated. At last, he could see clearly evil as evil and good as good. Paul’s nature was changed by the redeeming grace of God. Spiritual awakening has occurred in our
nation in the past, and such a spiritual change can happen again in the power of God’s Holy Spirit. Pray that the righteousness of God may reign in America and corruption, confusion, and evil be defeated. Pray that the Truth of Christ will be
revealed to Americans of all ages. Pray that our nation will repent, be forgiven, and be transformed by the redeeming grace of God. Let us pray continually for America to experience again an outpouring of God’s Spirit, bringing joy, peace, and hope to our troubled land.

Fellowship Meal Celebrates Mother’s Day
Our May fellowship meal will be on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, following the morning worship service. It will be a perfect gathering at which to honor all those God has provided to fill the role of motherhood in our lives. Historically, Mother’s Day began through the efforts of Anna Jarvis, whose mother passed away in 1905. Anna’s dedication to her mother’s memory and her perseverance in the campaign to recognize Mother’s Day as a national holiday in the United States remind us of our deep personal
connections to those who have given us life and nurture. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially designated the second Sunday in May
as Mother’s Day. This year, bring your family to worship God and enjoy a covered dish meal with family and friends. We praise God and give him thanks for all those people he has used to fill the role of a mother’s nurture in our lives.
