From the Pastor’s Desk: More Than Conquerors… We Are Never Alone

Romans 8 is one of the most comforting chapters of the Bible because of the very great promises and reassurances it gives to us as believers in Christ. Romans 8:1-25 assures us of our redemption from sin through faith in Christ: There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus! Because the Spirit of God lives in us, we are empowered to overcome temptation and sin if we choose to live by the Spirit of God. We are called Children of God and heirs to the glory of Christ. The next time the circumstances of your life feel unmanageable, chaotic, or overwhelming, take time to read and ponder this chapter, paying special attention to Romans 8:26-39. In this scripture, we learn that because of God’s grace and our faith, we are never alone; nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ. Listen to these promises:

·        Even when we don’t know how or what to pray, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us. He prays for us just as God wants him to pray. Through the Spirit in us, God knows our hearts fully even when we cannot find the words to tell him how we feel (Romans 8:26-27).

·        We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28). God is aware of and in control of everything that happens. Because of his great love and goodness, we can trust him to bring good out of even the most difficult circumstances. We are not alone but are united in purpose with God.

·        There is no power or circumstance that can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:37-39). In all the difficulties of this life, there is no power that we cannot overcome with Jesus as Lord. In him, we are more than conquerors… we are never alone because of what Jesus has done for us.

New Multi-Age Activity in August

Cooking classes offered by elder Brad Karl on Wednesday afternoons have come to an end, with fifteen classes completed. Students learned about various food preparation techniques as they prepared and tasted menu items from countries around the world. The focus for this meeting time in August will be on story-telling and crafts. Stories from the life of David, drawn from the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel, will teach us that God is with us through the challenges of daily life. Four lessons will be offered by Pastor Cindy Barton. Meet us at the fellowship hall on Wednesdays in August at 4:30 PM to join this multi-age activity. Everyone is welcome.

Trinity Presbytery Boards to Meet

Certain boards and committees of Trinity Presbytery will meet at the First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Texas on Friday, August 14 and Saturday, August 15, 2026. On Friday, the task Force on Ordained Clergy, the Task Force on Theological and Social Concerns, and the Presbytery Council will meet. On Saturday, the Board of Christian Education, the Board of Finance, the Judicial Concerns Committee, the Board of Missions, and the Committee on Probationers will meet. These committees are essential to the work and ministry of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in this region. Approximately fifty people currently fill positions on these working boards. Positions are held for three-year terms, with the ability to serve for two terms. Thirteen positions will become vacant in 2026, as those who currently serve complete their terms of service. Please consider the opportunity to serve on a board of the church. This is essential service to God’s work and helps to support all congregations of Trinity Presbytery. If you are interested in learning more about serving in this way, please contact the church office or Rev. Barton for more information.
